River surfing is an exercise in patience. Sometimes that’s waiting thirty minutes for a ride when the lineup is two dozen deep, but more often it’s waiting weeks or months for the season to begin. While we’re fortunate in Colorado to have more and more options across the state, it’s always a bummer when a spot loses a season due to poor snowpack and uncooperative weather. For 2025, that spot is Denver’s River Run Park.
With just 21 surfable days so far this season, this is RRP’s 3rd worst season since opening in 2016. Especially stark in comparison to last-year, which was the best year since the park opened, with nearly 100 full days of surf.

Doom and gloom aside, we have been surprised by some late-season miracles in the past, and the cooling temperatures and rainy forecast going into late August might just do the trick. At the very least, your friendly EW editor has had plenty of time to focus on their secondary summer hobby. Anyone need zucchini?
