River Surfers Doing Rad Things

River surfing hosts a vibrant scene of unique, creative individuals doing awesome things on and off the water. Here are just a few of them:

Nathan Ginn’s Board Pusher YouTube Channel

The late, great Nathan Ginn was a force of nature on the Colorado river surf scene. He paired a street skate-style with small, finless boards to create a style of river surfing all his own. Words can’t quite describe Nathan’s surfing, but luckily he left us dozens of videos. Ride like Nathan.

SUPERCRITICAL FLOWS

Editor’s Note: SUPERCRITICAL FLOWS has mysteriously vanished from the internet.

While the identity of “The Critic” or “LBK” is unknown to this day, one thing is for certain: Supercritical Flows is the rawest source of information on river surfing today. Unfiltered, unabashed, and often irreverent, you’ll find everything from news and rumors to food reviews and surf music guides. Not suitable for children, the elderly, or adults.

Good Spirits Media

A good photographer is every surfer’s best friend. Elyse Aviña is the talent behind Good Spirits Media, her sports & outdoor photography portfolio. Elyse takes electrifying shots, capturing both the technical prowess of talented riders as well as the energy and community surrounding every river wave.

Dragondeer

Denver-based Psychedelic Blues, Retro Funk, Soul and Rock-n-Roll band with a river surfing frontman.

Lost n Drowned

Munich Eisbach legend Tao Schirrmacher’s whimsical instagram account cataloging all the loot he’s found in the river over the years.

Rapid Surf League Style Files YouTube Playlist

The Rapid Surf League from Germany has created an outstanding “Style Files” playlist, showcasing over three dozen river surf techniques and tricks. Each clip is shot with high-quality cameras and features slow-motion breakdowns for detailed analysis. Excellent footage to help learn new tricks.

Dylan Graves – “Weird Waves”

While primarily saltwater-based, surfer, content producer, and all-around chill dude Dylan Graves made it his mission to travel to as many ‘weird waves’ as he could over four seasons of his YouTube series. Because river waves fall in the “weird” category, he hits Munich’s Eisbach, Bend Oregon, and a mysterious wave in Wyoming no one has ever heard of.

The Colorado Sun – River Surfing Coverage

When a hedge fund bought the Denver Post, a group of dedicated journalists quit and founded The Colorado Sun. Since then, they’ve been a vocal proponent of river surfing, with multiple articles over the years from topics ranging from WaveShaper technology in the South Platte to the building of the Scout 2.0 wave in Salida. Long live independent journalism.
