Charlie’s Hole

steamboat

Wave Description:

The Yampa in Steamboat Springs is host to the A, B, and D holes, but the C-Hole, or Charlie’s Hole, is the real gem here. It’s surfable on SUPs and shortboards if flows are good, and you can keep on surfing higher volume craft down to around 200 cfs, though like most surf wave/holes in the state, more water is better, and you can keep on surfing up through 1600 cfs and beyond.

They’ve also recently reshaped the A-hole, so it may be worth checking out to see what the changes have brought about at higher water.

Gauge Information:

Yampa at Steamboat gives an accurate reading for this stretch. Look for over 200 cfs to do anything here, and over 1,000 cfs to make a roadtrip worth it.

For photos of the waves at specific flows, check out the River Surf Report.
