Wave Description:
The Mountain is the Calgary area’s premier surf wave. It’s an artificial wave, but with a natural feel – no cement ditches here. With solid flows it’s knee to waist high with a good set of shoulders, width, and plenty of speed. It’s not without its hazards though; shallow rocks behind the wave can beat up on the unwary – be sure to land flat.
Gauge Information:
Use the Barrier gauge, found here. Flows at the wave are half an hour or so behind the changes reflected on the gauge. Look for 700 to 1300+ cfs (20 to 36 cms). The flow will often cut off to nearly nothing daily.
Directions:
From the Canoe Meadows parking lot head west to the river and through the campground, then turn upstream and walk until you get to a wave.
